There is no better way to get away from the hustle and bustle for your beach vacation than Ocracoke Island. It’s remote, it’s only accessible by ferry, and critically it’s missing outlet mall shopping and giant candy stores. It’s the quintessential mom-and-pop island beach town and I HIGHLY recommend you visit if you can spare the time.

The ferries depart from Hatteras Village and Cedar Island, each taking around 2-3 hours depending on the route you take. The Hatteras ferry to Ocracoke is also FREE which is always a plus for me.

Once you arrive on Ocracoke Island, you have a plethora of activities and attractions to explore, including historic sites such as the British Cemetery, which marks the site of one of the most devastating naval battles

I always find amazing shells on the beach and I’ve never seen more dolphins playing in the waves than on Ocracoke Island.

For me, that’s 1718 Brewery , located at 1718 North Hwy 12 Ocracoke Island. This brewery is one of the most unique and interesting places on the island. The atmosphere is perfect for relaxing after a long day of exploring, with outdoor seating and live music.

The beer selection here is extensive, ranging from light ales to dark stouts. If you’re looking for a bite to eat, the menu offers a variety of options, including burgers, tacos, and sandwiches.
